These are not advanced hiking tips, this is a packlist (sorry Chris). For one thing, ‘advanced’ hikers don’t need to be told that a shirt keeps your upper body warm.
What would have been more interesting i.m.o. is which trade-offs you make in choosing your gear for a particular type of trip (Do you want your hard shell to come with a thermal layer or do you have a separate garment?) and which items you keep on-hand as opposed to the deeper and harder to reach places in your outfit.

I apologise for point 5, I shouldn’t have added an insult. I vehemently oppose the death penalty exept for leaders of state that engage in warfare for cynical reasons, but being able to vehemently oppose whilst remaining civil is a virtue that I let slip. People are always going to take drugs and many will succumb. Wise policy should be based on minimising the harm drugs do to individuals and society as hole. The ‘war on drugs’ is as misconceived and dangerous as the ‘war on terror’.

I don’t want to legalize drugs to encorage the use you sound like you would not want to take the chance using an addictive substance I sure didn’t.I have dealt with addiction and hated it to watch them with the ups and downs it seems they never can get a grip after treatment. I support the decriminaliztion of cannabis but there my agreement ends. 1) Capital punishment does not deter crime or improve society. 2) Capital punishment is both immoral and undemocratic; a democratic principle is that the state, and it’s organs, is fallible. 3) Many of those on herione are self-medicating, mentally ill persons. 4)Comparing a democracy to a totalitarian regime should be absurd, though with Bush & Co./patriot act you might have a point 5) You are barking mad.

America is not safe b/c of the b/s war on drugs that is a prohibition. Legalize drugs the price drops no matter what 1.5% of the population will be addicted it has held fast from 1900 till now no matter what the law says. Every American should be able to afford to see a Dr when needed. China has it right get caught on heroine get a bullet those drugs are never good they are too addictive. My point is that the gun lobby and right-wing factions (KKK aka NRA) have perverted the libertarian debate and Americans are all hostage to gun proliferation and the romantisism ociated with pistol-power. All I know is that America would be a safer and saner society without the small-arms proliferation. Guns are becoming more commonplace in many areas of Europe too, with terrifying results. Hunting weapons are not really of any real use to casual criminals

I have lived in areas where they have so called gun control what happens is the criminals have guns everywhere they go and law abiding folks have none. I don’t live where they don’t allow me to be armed b/c just the fact that I can protect myself keeps the criminals guessing. You have to be alert and keep a good head that alone will prevent most attacks. I carry a very small 22 cal not enough to scare anyone but do you want to take that chance I don’t any GSW can be fatal.
