What would you recommend as the best pocket first aid kit for an expedition?

Basically it. I just want a first aid kit that contains everything I will need as well as space for extra items that I may need (insect repellent, antihistamine, et cetra) a clip for a belt would be useful. At the minute I am looking at a Gelert ACC227 does anyone know of any better ones? Also not looking to spend to much £20 max.

That’s a good one.

Kavekars you only need a single shot derringer in the first aid kit. If you get hurt that bad one shot is all you need LOL

and the people I chill with all agree
our first aid kits should contain a fifth
of Jack Daniels No. 7 and fully loaded
    1911 Model .45 pistol.

  5. from a hiking perspective, if you can’t fix anything with duct tape and a sock, then you better get yourself to a hospital.

I don’t hike with a first-aid kit and don’t want to. it’s added weight that I don’t want to carry. beyond medicine for blisters, I don’t know what a first aid kit really benefits (unless you’re alergic to bee stings or something like that).

  7. I have a lifesystems one - about the same price.

I’ll add a bit here as well after reading the other answers.

There are a couple saying something along the lines of "If you can’t fix it with a plaster then get to hospital" which is something that I would agree with. Consider the injuries that you are likely to get while hiking and on an expedition. The most common would be a blister so you will need blister pads, then I guess falling over ad grazes - so look at that… when you consider what you are likely to suffer from then you can decide what you need in a first aid kit. You might be better getting a small box and making your own - then you have exactly what you need.

    I would consider:
    Plaster
    Blister kit
    Medium pad and tape
    Antiseptic wipes
    2 small crepe bandages
    Triangular bandage
    Tweezers and Scissors
    Paper and Pencil, 20p piece
    Safety pins

Depends where you are going, you might not need antihistamine, however few shop bought packs contain these - you have to add them as extras

Anything that you need more than that and perhaps you should consider gong home and getting to a hospital or doctor. Walking wounds should be small to enable you to carry on - so no good looking at fixing a broken leg on the hills, but a blister or 2 and a small cut and you ar OK.

A first aid kit to clip on the belt? Assuming that you are in the UK then a first aid kit clipped onto the belt is going to leak…. so the plasters inside will get wet and loose their stick and things like that. Better to pop it into your bag for an expedition - in a first aid situation where you need to do things then you have time to get it out - the only need for speed is if the heart or breathing stops really.

The most important thing to take of course is your brain and a knowledge of what to do.

  8. well my fellow camper. having just bought a roll of micro pour tape for £2 I think you better re budget.
any way as an outdoor leader, you can cut down your stuff due the place you are going too. But basically a roll of electrical tape for small cuts and for larger ducking tape can be used for plasters and to make splint with or slings. you can construct stretches from it. antiseptic you can use iodine it is an antiseptic and will kill all the bugs in water in 2mins ( and all the bugs bugs in your gut)
