“Level 1″ First Aid Kit by Nutnfancy

Sooner or later you will get hurt. And if it’s not you, it will be someone in your party. Therefore be smart and self-reliant and always have some medical capability integrated into your systems. Here I cover my first option to do just that, a “Level 1″ First Aid kit of my own construction. Siding with the emphasis on “Mobility”, this kit doesn’t contain supplies to handle every medical emergency. It is designed to handle most of the medical problems I’ve encountered in my adventuring. And at just 5.5 ounces and being very slim in profile, it is designed for high-speed outdoor, backpacking, tactical, or Xootring adventures (to be explained). This Level 1 kit has an emphasis on stopping blood loss, disinfecting wounds, minor pain stoppage, and bandage exchange. Components of the kit and some of the POU involved are explained; your preferences and needs may vary. Additional Level 1 kit items that I sometimes integrate include: sharp REI tweezers, surgical gloves, moleskin, Gorilla-brand duct tape (unless carried elsewhere in system), superglue vials (for wound closure), ACE bandages, salt and/or electrolyte drink mix (to revive dehydrated hikers), needles, and a scalpel. Integration of these items in the desired Level 1 size and weight constraints may be difficult however and is they are needed than maybe portaging a “Level 2″ (more complete) kit would be warranted. I do not use “QuickClot” in a Level 1; too heavy and bulky and not necessary. Compared to even a quality first aid kit, like ones from “Adventure Medical Kits” this version has more depth. It is difficult for makers like AMK to make kits to this level because of the elevated cost in doing so (and then they wont sell well). Handling medical emergencies on your adventures is your responsibility and help may be far away. You will also find that few people even carry a First Aid kit with this much capability and you will be the on-site medical expert since you’re prepared (been there!). Having such a kit will minimize pain, injury, and maybe even save a life possibly yours. Be prepared TNPrs.

    OK thanks.

  3. Those numbers are …
Those numbers are batch/lot numbers for quality control. As long as the packaging is intact, the dressings are certainly sterile. Good luck with your kit!

  4. What are some …
What are some examples of “tissue removal” with the razor blade?

  5. Nice kit, You are …
Nice kit, You are right on about creating your own trauma kit.

Have you looked at Israeli bandage, or a blood stopper bandage.

    What is this music?

  8. Does anyone know if …
Does anyone know if sterile bandages have an expiration date? I have a couple old car kits that I want to cannibalize for my main kit, but they’re like 10 years old. The bandage packages say “sterile unless opened or damaged” and they look fine. But there are also some numbers on the back that could potentially look like grocery “expiration dates.” Not sure. Anyone? Please respond, I’d like to save some bucks if possible.

  9. great suggesstion …

  11. Here’s an idea for …
Here’s an idea for you Nutnfancy fans out there…. I had too much money in my Flex Plan Medical witholdings this year. Under IRS regs you can use Flex money for over-the-counter bandages, meds, etc. I got many of the items Nutnfancy shows us in this video from pre-tax Flex Plan money (that I also won’t lose to the gov’t)!!!

  12. OK, I stuffed 5 …
OK, I stuffed 5 kits tonight and here are some suggestions to add to your Level 1: Triangle Bandage (great for broken arm sling or headwounds which are both common in the wilderness), latex gloves, sting relief pads, and tweezers. I added these to my kit and left out the sutures, so I’m ready to rock and roll now. Thanks for the vid.

  13. if a wounddressing …
if a wounddressing is stuck in the coagulated blood you can (must) soak it loose instead of just tearing it off :D

  14. lol at 03:35 it …
lol at 03:35 it looks like condomes in all colors :)

  15. if you have to use …
if you have to use your suture, I’d suggest you stuff a pair of Mosquitos or Kelly’s in your bag, suturing without forceps and pick-ups is a real , also, you should practice on chicken skin so when the ballon goes up, you have some sort of practice, so add a pair of Adson without teeth and a pair of Mosquitos or Kelly’s
    other than that great job

  16. Great video! But …
Great video! But the kit could use some celox, which is like quick clot but better (there is a good celox video on youtube with a pig). You can get small 2g packages which sounds perfect for your kit.

  17. WHAT!! No duct tape …
WHAT!! No duct tape. that stuff can fix everything, broken leg arm, wounds, slings, and i funny one toliet paper (i’ve tried it before but avoid the sticky side or else it gets messy).

Also Nutnfancy why the don’t you have a show because no doubt would you make a good amount of money.because of endorsements.

  18. Excellent Video!!! …
Excellent Video!!! I received my document bags today and am half way stocked. Need to make one more trip to gather essentials.

  19. when will you make …
when will you make a level 2 video??

  20. Nutnfancy, when I …
Nutnfancy, when I heard you say that there will be a Level I and Level II kit, I umed that the Level I kit would be the greater of the two, as the hospital Trauma Centers are classified (I, II, III, IV, etc) with Level I being prepared for just about anything.

  21. Have you tried …
    Have you tried quikclot?

  22. bullet hole?

    stick …
    bullet hole?

    stick a tampon in there

    haha
    just kidding
    maybee….

  23. Would you carry …
Would you carry rubber gloves with you? When I was in EMS, we always had to have rubber gloves on, no matter how small the injury. I suppose it was more for our protection though, against blood born pathogens and such.

  24. “Nutnfancy has …
“Nutnfancy has water purification stuff with him, check out his “Backpacking System, Extended Stay” 8 part Video.” Thank you “mikeepeck” and you are very observant. Water purification falls into the survival kit department for us. Peace.

  25. “Make sure you keep …
“Make sure you keep the dihydrogendioxide (H2O2) in the dark because it can photolysis.” Great point and done!
