What are good camping gear and army surplus stores in Toronto?

For camping gear, I highly recommend Mountain Equipment Co-op downtown at King and Spadina - http://www.mec.ca - and while you're in the area, check out Europe Bound, a few stores down and on the other side of the street. As weird as it sounds, I also recommend Canadian Tire for affordable camping supplies. Comparison-shopping between Mec and Canadian Tire worked out pretty well for my partner and I on our camping trip.

The only army surplus store I've seen is in Kensington Market (AAA Army Surplus, 199 Baldwin St) and it's pretty small, but I've heard of Save More Sport Store (114 Queen Street East) which also has an online shop - http://www.savemoresportstore.ca/shop/ and there's Army Outfitters up in North York - http://armyoutfitters.ca/ - I am guessing their websites will give you an idea of whether they're worth the trip.

Good luck!

  4. If I lived in the Toronto area I would be going to Mountain Equipment co-op. They usuaully have a range of quality for a range of prices but you can almost always find really good quality for a price that's affordable as well. Like another reader has stated there is Europebound across the road.

I sometimes buy stuff online. You could check out some camping sites for some gear answers. Check out http://www.everything-about-camping.com for gear advice and gear etc…
