I need a list of basic camping gear.?

I have $125 to spend on camping gear. Aside from a tent and sleeping bag, what else do I need?

Stove (get a Trangia or similar) + pans
Torch
Lantern (battery)
mat to sleep on
put a piece of cardboard in a refuse sack to sit on - cost $0!
Insect repellant/ mosquito net perhaps?

When you buy the tent it should have pockets inside to store small items, and a hook or ties inside to fix the lamp to. The tent doesn't need to be expensive but shop around for a good one that's constructed well… Replacement poles and pegs are handy. A mallet to put the pegs in is handy too.

Spend the rest on Tequila and marshmallows to take with you! lol

  2. It depends a lot on what type of climate you will be camping in warm or cold. But $125 won't go far for quality gear, you can spend more than that just on a tent or sleeping bag alone. But in addition to tent and sleeping bag you'll want either a foam pad or cot, sleeping directly on the ground is no fun. Then some cooking gear. If you plan on cooking over a fire, then a couple of pots, knife fork and spoon. Flashlight or lantern is pretty important, probably a pack to carry your stuff into the campsight. Hatchet or portable saw to cut firewood, a good all purpose knife. Again climate determines what type of clothes you'll need but it is important to be comfortable, good hiking shoes, light weight layers if it will be cold, mittens, wool socks, warm hat that can cover your ears. Insect repellent is almost always a must - don't forget soap and a towel, the list can go on and on, but you'll be limited by how remote the campsite is and if you have to hike in to get to it, or if you can just pull up in your car and just unload right there.

  4. warm clothes
    food (non perishable works easiest)
    water
    wood
    lighter
    pan
    camping stove
    basic items for hygiene
    radio
    camp soap
    bin to wash dishes
    whistle
    bug spray
    multipurpose tool
    hatchet

it really depends on the type of camping you are doing.. if its hiking to your campsite, you would pack differently/lighter, less. but if you can stuff a car full and have it near.. pack whatever you want!
