Does anyone know a really good place to get camping gear???

It's a 6 day camp and i need to know some where u can get good and affordable camping gear.like sunblock bugspray clothes sleeping bags canteens(water bottles)

    If you want top notch gear, REI is the place. Trust me though, you will pay good money for it.

    If you are just going to a regular summer camp, just go to Wal Mart. Their gear is fine for general use.

    All the places above are good along with Bass Pro Shops,Cabels and Dicks Sporting Goods. Also check out ebay I've seen a few good deals on equipmen there. If you go to one of the higher priced stores (example REI) and are looking at general camping supplies check your Wal-Mart or Target. Ive seen the exact same items priced much higher just with a different name stamped on packaging.

And not only do you have the good gear to buy, but you also get a very knowledgable staff that is friendly and will answer all of your questions, and if they can't they will get the answer for you. I think that that has something to do with where ou should shop.     In our area there are a lot of garage/rummage sales on weekends. If you have the time and a good eye you can find a lot of stuff. Also check thrift stores and such. Won't help for the bug spray but will for the clothing and sleeping bags and such.

    A cheaper tent and or sleeping bags have downfalls especially in the rain or if you find it is not user friendly.Sleeping bag should be warm enough w/o being too heavy and bulky Its nice if they can be washed in a normal sized washer rather than so big you have to take to laundromat Mummy bags are warmest and less bulky. Some are doubles and get zipped together.

    Costco has some good buys as well Check the rating for temps and get the ones you are most likely to be needing The more expensive ones are down and for the very coldest weather whereas others can be had for a lowerprice.Clothes-consider oldest ones or thrift store ones if you are not going mountainclimbing on Kilamajaro or anything.
    REI for sure-great customer servicePlus its a co op so partly owned by the consumers. You can get affordable as well as top of the line gear there. Sales bring the cost down.
    Walmart etc has acceptable items but you better have some knowledge or you may end up w some loser stuff that you cant return later on .A bad tent will make you miserable . then you end up paying twice as much cause you have to go back and get another anyway perhaps. After use you may not get the discount stores to agree to a return.Tent should have full rainfly not halfway-lots of stuff could trip you up if youre not very experienced so consider going to REI to at least shop and get tips then you can compare with the discount stores to see if some items of less importance could be bought at those stores.You dont have to buy the most expensive model of everything but they do have the highest quality if you want that stuff as well Im not a business pusher of them, but I do enjoy shopping there and buy things in a choosy way .
    BTW I bought one of those "exact same items" at Walmart- a personal sized water bottle with nice drinking lid and it kept on leaking everywhere after brand new. I lost the receipt and its too much trouble to wait in long line a t Walmart to argue for a return at this point. Got one later at REI for about the same price and no leaking.

    I've bought a lot of gear at Walmarts, Sears and Dicks. We've also purchased through Campmor and Outdoor Life catalog.
    One place not mentioned here is either a consignment sports store, or Goodwill. I've picked up cooking gear at Goodwill, as well as camping totes and baskets.
    Your best bet for bugspray, etc; would probably be Walmart.
