Why do kids in high school not carry backpacks but then do in college?

why do kids in elementary school/middle school use backpacks, stop in high school, then go back to them for college? what’s the reasoning? society? peer pressure? lack of committment to school?

In high school they don’t care for studying too much they just want to look cool.
Than in university they understand they need they’re stuff for school so they carry it.

    Lockers. You don’t have any place to keep your books in college and the classes are spread out around campus.

    because in high school they want to "impress" people by looking "cool" and not having backpacks, which signifies you’re a nerd.

    anyway in college, more people carry around laptops/food/water bottles, etc and classes often have odd gaps in between and are spead out over a large campus.

    i used a backpack in elementary school,middle school and i continue to use one to this day and i will start my senior year in high school next week. i don’t always have time to stop by my locker between classes so a backpack comes in handy.

    a lot of other students use backpacks at my school too.
